World's Scare is a classical dark-ride journey with a surprise ending, based upon the nonfiction book, The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. The book is about the planning, construction, and excitement of the 1893 Worlds Fair in Chicago, as well as H.H. Holmes, who is believed to have been America's first serial killer.

Holmes took advantage of unsuspecting visitors and constructed an elaborate building dubbed the Worlds Fair Hotel, where he later claimed to have murdered visitors within its maze of corridors, trapdoors, chambers, and chutes.
